About Our Den

I met my Lion King (John) in 1998 and we’ve been inseparable ever since. We’re high school sweethearts which both rocks and sucks at the same time. (It mostly rocks though.)  It’s been 12 years and we’re still not married on the account of me getting knocked up every 2 years since we’ve been together. So, we’re raising our cubs in a non-traditional way until I our big ol’ Catholic wedding can finally happen. We live in the very liberal San Francisco Bay Area so our lifestyle isn’t a huge deal.

The life that we’ve built together is beautiful pandemonium, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. We have two “normal” older boys (Kevin and Anthony) and two children (Ethan and Annika) affected by a severe bleeding disorder called Factor VII Deficiency. Our first “bleeder” (Ethan) passed away in 2008 due to a spontaneous brain hemorrhage. He was one week old. Ethan’s diagnosis caught us by surprise, but his untimely passing has helped our youngest cub Niki thrive despite her condition. We are expecting our youngest cub Anjali  (pronounced Awn-jah-Lee) to arrive in late January.

Life has been tough, but I don’t think our struggles are any worse than anyone else out there. We learn from our experiences and I’m happy to say that our den is proud to bare the scars that life has given us. Welcome to the Lions Den!
